Hi Guys, how are you doing? This is Lorna Earnshaw. Voice coach, Singer/Songwriter and Amazon Bestseller, author of "Speak Out". Today I want to share with you how you're going to sound confident. Have a confident voice even though today you hate the sound of your voice. Do you hate listening to the sound of your voice? Have you ever felt embarrassed or uncomfortable? while listening to a recording of your voice? You're like, "Oh my God, is this how I sound?" Then this is going to be a problem when you are building a brand, when you're trying to create videos consistently, when you're working on speaking on stage. What happens if you don't like the sound of your voice? If you don't, who will like the sound of your voice? That’s why it's so important for you to start loving the sound of your voice! Because when you do that, people will do that too.
And there are many ways, many techniques that you can use in order to correct the things that you don't like about your voice. But let me tell you something. First off, people who say they hate their voices, people who believe that they don't have a confident voice, they can’t even show me and point out what is the thing that they don't like about their voices. They just reject it. People say, "I don't like the sound of my voice. I hate listening to myself", but they can't tell me what are the things that they don't like about their voices.
So when I work as a voice coach with new clients, the first thing that I do is I to ask my clients, “what do you think about your voice?” And what I usually get is that they don't even understand what are the things that they could be working on and they don't understand that they can improve their voices, that they can create a sound that's going to be more pleasant and that they can use their voices in a more effective way so that they can become more confident, more influential, and more successful.
Because your voice is responsible for the 38% of the outcome of every presentation you do! And I see a lot of people that are extremely concerned about the words that they use. They're extremely concerned about building the perfect copy message, but they don't understand. WWhat’s the message that the their voice is sending out?.
So when you do like the sound of your voice, when you feel that your voice doesn't have the authority that you need, there is a way for you to develop that. I did it. My clients do it all the time. So this is why you can accomplish that as well.
So how are we going to do that? How are you going to be more confident about your voice? This is something that I do through vocal technique. When you learn to listen to your voice, to analyze the good things and the bad things, when you understand how to use your voice in a healthier way, how to breathe, how to project your voice, how to articulate, how to create melody, your voice will be more pleasant and your voice will be listened to from the beginning.
This might be a process that it's going to make you uncomfortable because it's gonna require practice from you doing vocal exercises, repetition and being conscious about the way that you're using your voice. But after a while this is going to become the new habit, the way that you are going to be expressing yourself with more confidence and then you will start liking yourself.
As singers, we listen to our voices a lot, but speakers are not so used to listening to their own voices. So in my trainings, what I do with my students is to listen to our voices and we learn to appreciate what is good and different about our voices.
And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that your voice needs to be perfect and I'm not saying that your voice will ever be perfect first off because we don't even know what perfection is when it comes to a voice.
What I'm trying to say is that what I want you to feel is a deep appreciation of your voice. I want you to feel comfortable about your voice and I want you to feel grateful because it's the way the tool that will allow you to make your dreams reality.
Your Voice is the number one communication tool that you have and it is super, super essential for you to become a better communicator, for you to be more successful in your professional life and also in your personal life because this will change that people listen to you. This will change the way people perceive you, so how do you achieve that?
The first step is understanding what are the things that you don't like that much. Understanding what are the things that can be improved and putting together a plan so that you can do that. The first step after you understand what are the things that you need to be working on is to start practicing the voice exercises so that you learn how to use your breathing, how to articulate, how to project your voice and how to use the right pitch.
Then after the repetition of these exercises, you will start feeling that your voice is free. You're going to start feeling that your voice is not constricted anymore and when the new recognition you are going to build a new habit after a while.
This new habit, it's going to be the new way in which you're going to start using your voice and little by little you're going to keep on growing your confidence. You're going to start looking at their results at that. Yes, you will be able to put yourself out there with more confidence because you will know what you're doing.
Most of the times we are not confident when we're talking about something that we don't know, right? Or when we're doing something without even knowing what we're doing. When you go through a vocal coaching process, you will have the confidence of knowing what you're doing.
You’ll have the confidence that you would have when, for example, you go to a test, you have a test and you have studied, so you'd know what you have to answer, as opposed to when you go and you have a test in school or something like that and you haven't studied.
So the preparation is key and this will definitely make you more confident when using your voice.
